Saturday, February 1, 2025

BSP Financial Group (Fiji) Pte Limited (BSP), in partnership with the Foundation for the Education of Needy Children in Fiji (FENC Fiji), funded over 800 back-to-school packs for primary and secondary school students in the North, West and Central Divisions before the start of the new school year.

BSP’s General Manager Retail, Mr. Ravindra Singh, emphasised the broader purpose of the initiative, “These packs, which include exercise books, essential stationery and a bag, are designed to ease the financial strain on families while inspiring hope and providing the children with the resources to pursue their educational dreams.”

Now in its fifteenth year of collaboration with FENC Fiji, BSP has been an active and major sponsor, funding over 10,000 back-to-school packs throughout the entire term of their sponsorship.

“These stationery packs are more than just school supplies; they symbolise hope and belief that education can break the cycle of poverty,” added Mr. Singh.

The partnership between BSP and FENC Fiji, alongside support from other sponsors, highlights the shared responsibility of empowering Fiji’s youth through education.  This year’s distribution efforts included areas affected by the recent floods, with both BSP and FENC Fiji senior officials personally distributing the packs with logistical support from the respective provincial offices.

Speaking at one of the three distribution events held at Valelawa Primary School in Bua, FENC Fiji’s Head of Operations, Ms. Nirmala Nambiar said, “Today’s milestone underscores the power of partnerships in addressing educational challenges and empowering vulnerable communities. We provide for the poorest of the poor in our society. BSP’s support since 2009 has been instrumental in making a lasting impact with many of our early beneficiaries going on to pursue tertiary education and find consistent employment.”

BSP’s long-standing partnership with FENC Fiji reflects the bank’s commitment to community development. Ms. Nambiar acknowledged the support offered to FENC Fiji over the years.
“We are grateful for all the sponsorships and other forms of support. These are critical and enable us to deliver on our commitment of ensuring that no child is left behind in their pursuit for education and improve their future prosperity.”

Some of the sentiments expressed during the handover at the various centres were:

As Fiji’s largest bank, BSP operates 17 branches, 121 ATMs, over 3,000 EFTPoS terminals, and offers 24/7 banking services, ensuring financial accessibility nationwide, including rural and maritime areas.
