BSP donates water tanks to church communities
Bank South Pacific donated two five thousand litre water tanks for two church communities at Aleisa West and Saleimoa Uta late December, closing off their community projects for 2019.
The community project is an initiative that is done across the Region in all the countries that BSP trade in. For the year 2019, the focus was revisiting previous projects to assess any required maintenance or additional water tanks.
Water tanks are highly needed by individual families and village groups. Consultation with the Ministry of Natural Resources identified Aleisa West and Saleimoa Uta as some of the villages that have limited access to water supply. BSP selected the Congregation Christian Church of Samoa at Aleisa West and the Seventh Day Adventist Laveai Church at Saleimoa Uta to be the central locations for the water tanks to allow nearby families access to water.
"We are proud to donate these two 5,000 litre water tanks to these congregations to store water for use by individual families. This is part of our promise right from the beginning that we will give back to the Samoan community to improve their standard of living by assisting with their basic needs," says Taituuga Maryann Lameko-Vaai, Country Head for Bank South Pacific Samoa.
Samoa Superior Poly Products were kind enough to donate some of the materials and their expertise to assist BSP with their community project. The two church communities also contributed by building the bases for the water tanks.
Reverend Pati Crichton of the Congregation Christian Church of Samoa at Aleisa West acknowledged the donation and thanked BSP for the Christmas gift. "This water tank will help us store more water for use by the families in our village, as the old cement water tank is no longer safe for use. We are grateful to BSP for this Christmas gift. " Pastor Tavita Papu of the Seventh Day Adventist Laveai Church expressed his gratitude to BSP on behalf of his congregation for selecting their small community to be the recipient of this important project. "We have been relying on our neighbour's water tank for water, but with our own water tank, it has lessened the burden of having to carry buckets of water from their place."
Last year has seen BSP gave back to the community through projects like these. In July, BSP completed the roof extension for the Campus of Hope dining area at Samoa Victim Support Group. This was followed by the donation of two five thousand litre water tanks to the village of Lotofaga by the BSP Retail Department. Furthermore, various departments initiated their own projects as part of BSP's Community Value. These included, cleaning up of Mapuifagalele and donating to the Carmelites. These are just some of the many community projects that BSP has in store for Samoa.
