BSP paddles with Pualele Outrigger Canoe club
BSP Financial Group Limited is a supporter of community events and is happy to support the Pualele Outrigger Canoe Club paddle 180km around Upolu – a challenge that started on Thursday 24th June and ends on Saturday 26th June, 2021.
Twenty-five club members for Pualele all pitched in to paddle the entire 180km required to complete the event, commencing from their base at Taumeasina on Thursday morning at 6.30am with the aim to be back at Taumeasina by Saturday at 3pm.
BSP Business Manager Maiava Iaeli Tovia-Leota last week presented a cheque of SAT$6,000 plus merchandise ahead of the race which is currently underway – the biggest challenge of 2021 for the Pualele Outrigger Canoe Club.
She said BSP has long been a supporter of community events and that the Pualele Perimeter paddle was one such event, which they were very happy to support. She further added that the sport of Outrigger Paddling offered a unique opportunity for BSP to branch out to other sporting events that are popular with our youth.
Pualele Club President Manua Cam Wendt on behalf of the club thanked BSP for coming on board to support the Perimeter paddle.
He said, “BSP is also supporting our efforts to promote our sport of alo vaa and for that we can’t thank them enough. We appreciate these are difficult times for businesses however we are very much humbled by the response of these companies.”
The club, which counts paddling to Savaii and back as part of their list of achievements, are paddling the full 180km around Upolu simply to satisfy their adventurous spirit and also to explore the opportunity of turning it into a fully-fledged SOCA recognised race in future years.
