BSP School Rugby Championship ends on high note
The BSP National Schools 15s Rugby Championship has concluded on a high note with Leulumoega Fou College, Leififi College, Palauli i Sisifo College, and Church College Pesega emerging as champions in their respective divisions.
The BSP National Schools 15s Rugby Championship concluded on Friday 21st April, 2023, at St Joseph’s Alafua in Samoa. BSP Samoa Country Manager, Jennifer Fruean in congratulating all who participated in the championship, said it is a testament to the bank's commitment to supporting sports development and nurturing the next generation of rugby stars.
“The BSP National Schools 15s Rugby Championship is a tournament for young talents to showcase their skills, develop their game, and pursue their passion for rugby. We are proud to be associated with this tournament, which has become a significant event in Samoa's sports calendar. BSP remains committed to supporting sports development in Samoa and provide opportunities for young athletes to showcase their talents. We would also like to thank all the teams, coaches, supporters, and Lakapi Samoa for organising this excellent event that has united the schools,” Fruean added.
BSP’s sponsorship of the tournament include cash, goods and merchandise valued at more than $20,000. The tournament saw participants in under 14, 16 and 18 division age groups.
In the Boys Under 14 division, Leulumoegafou College displayed impressive skills and teamwork to claim the title, defeating Vaimauga College with a convincing score line. The young players' dedication, hard work, and passion for the sport were evident throughout the championship.
Leififi College demonstrated their superiority on the field with their outstanding performance and win against Amoa College from Savaii to claim the Under 16 boys division. The team's impressive performances throughout the competition demonstrated their brilliance, focus, and determination.
Palauli i Sisifo College from Savaii proved too strong for Safata College in the Girls Under 18 division, showcasing their skill, speed, and agility on the field. The team's resilience and hard work paid off as they emerged victorious in a closely contested final match.
Church College Pesega and Nuuausala competed fiercely in the Under 18 Boys division, with Church College Pesega ultimately winning. The winning team demonstrated their superior physical prowess, skill, and teamwork, solidifying their position as the top team in the division.
Earlier last week, the girls Under 16 Tens, Under 14 Tens and Under 14 Tag winners were awarded with prizes. The girls Under 16 Tens was won by Lepa Lotofaga College, while the girls Under 14 Tens was won by Itu o Tane College and the girls Under 14 Tag was won by Wesley College.
The BSP National Schools 15s Rugby Championship has been a tremendous success, and the bank looks forward to supporting the Schools National Rugby 7s Championship on the 2nd and 3rd of June 2023.
